Recognized by their long forks and chopped frames, choppers have found new appeal among today's motorcycle enthusiasts and continue to inspire motorcycle customizers around the globe. Choppers takes a unique look at these classic pieces of twentieth century Americana. Written by experienced motorcycle writer Mike Seate, Choppers provides a comprehensive look at how choppers originated and evolved and what has fueled the current resurgence of interest in building and riding custom motorcycles. Early chapters explore the post-World War II bob job Harleys that predated the chopper. Interviews and historical photos detail the development of the chopper from its earliest days, through the outlaw longbike period of the 1960s and 1970s, to the twenty-first century chopper renaissance.



Custom motorcycle - A custom motorcycle is a motorcycle that is highly stylized or which treats aspects such as frame geometry or engine design in an unusual way compared to standard manufacturing. Custom motorcycles are unique or individually produced in a very limited quantity, as opposed to "stock" bikes or "stockers," which are mass produced.

Street Fighter (motorcycle) - Street fighter is the term lent to a style of custom motorcycle which originally had fairings that have since been removed. In more recent years, the term has also come to be applied to motorcycles intentionally built (by the originating firm) without fairings, usually from the same engine/frame combination as a full-faired or partially-faired offering in their product line-up.

Police motorcycle - A police motorcycle is a motorcycle used by various police departments. They may be custom designed to meet the requirements unique of a particular department.

Scooter (motorcycle) - A motor scooter is a motorcycle with a step-through frame in which the rider sits without straddling any part of the engine. Most modern motor scooters have continuously variable transmissions and have wheels smaller in diameter, between 8 and 14 inches (20-35 cm), than other motorcycles.
